The Sydney Bears with a team of 16 players faced off against the Newcastle Northstars . The team being determined to reverse the early season dominance by the Northstars, at least in the way of results.
In the 1st period it was obvious from the outset that the Bears weren't going to give anything away. The team very focused on its objective. The Bears got the first goal of the game at 7:39 (goal Scott Clemie, assist by Chris Johnson). A goal from the Northstars at 12.22 equalised the scores back. At the end of the 1st period, the score was one all.
Penalties from the Bears continued to give Northstars some chances. But at 4.20 the Bears, one player down, managed a goal (goal Saxon Air, assist Chris Johnson). It was now 2-1. The Bears continued the period not giving up any ground. At the end of the 2nd, it was 2-1 for the Bears.
The game was still in the balance going into the third period. Again penalties were giving the Northstars opportunities but the Bears were able to hold. At 12.25 in third period the Bears got the insurance they were seeking when they scored (goal Scott Clemie, unassisted). The score now 3-1.The Northstars pulled their goalie to give them one last surge. The Bears got a shot at the empty net, unluckily it went wide. When the buzzer sounded to end the game, the final score was Bears 3- North Stars 1.
The team will now face up to Liverpool Saints for the 2011 Championship .
