Despite being short on the bench with their Atoms players away and coming up against the top-rated Emperors, the Bears displayed absolute determination and domination in this game to blow the Emperors away !
The first period started as expected with lots of energy from both sides, but with a pre-match gee-up from Coach Neil setting the Bears on a determined path, they never looked back.
Max picked-up the first goal of the game after a rousing skate from halfway followed by a similar effort from Mackay from the Bears defensive zone to see the first end 2-0 the Bears way.
The second period was more of the same with great efforts from TJ, Dani and Jacob almost leading to goals with Edwin continually hassling in defence, spoiling the Emperors chances. A goal off a rebound shot to Ryan saw the Bears end the second 3-0 on top and on the ascendency over their opposition.
The third period saw a lot of pent-up frustration from both teams come to the fore resulting in several penalties with the Bears making the best of it with 4 goals in this period, two in this period to Saxon with TJ again coming close to scoring and picking-up two Assists.
End Result - Bears win 7-1 in a fantastic display of domination hockey.
Special mention to Cian who simply had the most awesome game in the net for the Bears, 20 shots on for only 1 goal in - truely outstanding for a sometime Goalie ! WELL DONE CIAN
The Bears now go to the Finals and if they can play like this in the Finals, then .............

Bears PeeWees vs Liverpool Saints Sunday 24 August 2008
Another Cracker of a game !
The first period opened with plenty of fire from the Bears with a great first goal of the game being scored by Mackay to put the Bears on the board. This was responded to shortly thereafter by the Saints followed by a great run from Max and a chip into the Saints net by Jacob off a rebound seeing the first period end 2-1 the Bears way.
Unfortunately, the Bears went to sleep a little in the second letting 3 goals in while only scoring one themselves from a great Cian / Max combination. Score, 4-3 the Saints way.
An end of second period pep-talk from Coach Neil awoke the Bears from their slumber and saw the Bears fire-up across the ice with great defence from Hollie, Max, Mackay and Cian while Dani, Saxon, Nick, Ryan, Edwin and TJ all had shots on the Saints net. The Bears managed 6 shots for 2 goals in this period and held the Saints to 5 shots for only 1 goal thanks to the defence and great saves from Leila.
End result, a tie at 5-5 all !
With consistency across all the game time the Bears will beat the Saints when next they meet!

Bears PeeWees vs Eagles @ Penrith Sunday 10 August 2008
Well, what a game - another one of those great tit-for-tat arm wrestles where the teams are closely matched !
It's hard to say a lot about these teams when there was so little between them. Great attacking runs and defensive play from both sides resulting in neither side being able to score during the first period.
The points came in the second period though as each team began to find it's way with both teams putting the puck in the net at the other end twice to see the score 2-2 at the end of the second setting up a nail-biter finish.
So it was left to the third period to decide the game which didn't disappoint for action as all the kids gave it there all but in the end were outgunned by only a goal from the Eagles with their greater numbers of fresh legs coming off the bench to see the game end 4-3 the Eagles way.
Special mention to Ryan who put-in all over the ice and came back into the game after sitting out most of the second period with an injured knee, Leila with some great saves and Saxon who scored all the Bears goals.
Great effort Bears - Get 'em in the next one.

Bears PeeWees vs Eagles @ Penrith Sunday 27 July 2008
What another greeaaat game from the Bears !
Another game where both teams started well with lots of play from end to end. The Bears however dominated this period managing 10 shots on goal to the Eagles 2, showing a dominant defensive playing style thanks to Max and Hollie. The Bears attack wasn't bad either with Danni and Jacob continually pushing the puck forward in the middle while Edwin scored another great sniping goal at the net - looks like he's becoming a regular at this sort of goal, playing a strong position at the front of the opposing teams net. The Bears second goal then came off a great play between Max and Mackay to put the Bears in the lead at the end of the first 2-0 after a great shutout period with strong saves from Leila.
Unfortunately the Bears had a bit of a hibernation in the second missing the intensity they displayed in the first, letting in two goals to see the score 2-2 at the end of the second.
With a fire-up talk coming from Coach Neil and Trainers Dan and Joel at the end of the second, the Bears found renewed energy for the third period and proceeded to obliterate the Eagles ! The Bears dominance in this period was complete with 16 shots for 4 goals and letting just 6 Eagles shots through for 1 goal. Saxon and Cian were tireless in pushing the puck forward from the Bears defensive zone while Ryan and Nick were always there to pounce on the loose puck and have a shot, resulting in Ryan scoring two for the game. TJ also managed to gather a loose puck in the last 30 seconds of the game at the net and ram it home for the closing goal of the game.
All-in-all a FANTASTIC game from the Bears coming off great teamwork and positional play.
Well done Bears - Keep it going

Bears PeeWees vs Blacktown Flyers Saturday 26 July 2008 @ Penrith Ice Palace
After a 4-4 draw with the Flyers last week it was great to see the Bears get up and convincingly win this one, with only nine players too !
The first period saw both teams sounding each other out for the first ten minutes as the puck went from end-to-end with no score. The Bears eventually broke the drought with Saxon weaving through centre ice to pass off to Max who put it away for a great first goal. The Flyers however came back with a score shortly thereafter to level it at 1-1. With 24 seconds remaining in the period Nick made a great solo dash for the net past several defenders to score seeing the first end at 2-1 the Bears way.
After an end of first period pep talk from Coach Neil and Trainer Daniel the Bears came out absolutely firing with Saxon scoring only 1.5mins into the period. This was then followed by a great defenders goal from a shot off the blue-line from Mackay, set-up from a well played offensive box by the Bears. In only his third game, rookie Edwin then also sniped one into the Flyers goal after scrapping at the Flyers net. No score from the Flyers this period to put the score 5-1 the Bears way.
The Bears got even better in the third as they showed some great team-play to see Saxon get two more, TJ one, with great assists from Edwin and Ryan at the scoring end while Hollie and Leila did great work to keep the Flyers scoreless for the second and third periods.
End of game 8-1 to the Bears !
This was a great game which the Bears dominated with perseverance and great teamplay
Keep it up Bears !

Sunday 20 July 2008 Bears PeeWees vs Blacktown
With no training or games for the week prior to this game and down a player, the Bears PeeWees did remarkably well in this game.
It was a rather slow start to the first period with the Bears definitely trying to find their feet after a period of time with no ice under their paws. The goals however eventually came with Saxon on a mission scoring two in the first with only 1 in response from Blacktown seeing the Bears in the lead at the end of the first 2-1.
Ryan then took up the challenge and managed to put 1 in the net after some great team play from the Bears with the Flyers also managing a goal to see the score at the end of the second 3-2 the Bears way.
Penalties for both teams took up some time in the third with Saxon eventually putting the pedal to the metal and scoring his third with great assistance from Ryan and Nick making it 4-2 the Bears way. Lack of ice-time now really showed on the Bears as they slowed-down and forgot their positional play to let the Flyers get a goal to take it to 4-3 with the Bears still in the lead. However, with 4 seconds left on the clock the Flyers managed to score their fourth against a tired Bears outfit to see the game finish in a 4-4 draw.
An exciting finish but hoepfully one the Bears can improve upon when they come up against the Flyers again next week.
Train hard Bears !

Saturday 5 July 2008 vs Northstars
What a game of true grit from the Bears !
3-0 down at the end of the first with a stand-in goal-tender and to come back to a 6-6 tie at the end is all class !!
Great game here from all players particularly when missing our regular goal-tender Leila (great job by Cian to stand-in), forward TJ and with a new starter in Edwin Chu.
The Bears got off to a slow start to this game adjusting to Cian being in the net, no TJ and with new starter Edwin finding his feet in the first period resulting in the score being 3-0 against the Bears at the end of the first.
From here the Bears rallied though with Mackay scoring a great set shot goal from just inside the blue line which provided the inspiration to set the Bears in motion as then Ryan, Saxon and Mackay again hammered goals home whilst the Bears defense in Hollie and Max worked overtime to, restrict the Northstars to one goal for the period resulting in a 4-4 scoreline at the end of the second.
The third period saw Dani, Nick and Edwin having some good runs with the puck and getting some scoring chances while Jacob kept on picking the puck up out of the middle and driving it forward. The Bears actually managed to get to a 6-5 lead in this period but with only a minute to go the Northstars managed to sneak one through seeing the game end in a 6-6 draw.
This game had everyone on the edge of their seats with all Bears players exhausted at the end.
Great Game from the Bears

Sunday 29 June 2008 vs Cyclones
Another game with the Bears at their best !
The Bears fired well from the opening bell in this game scoring the first goal of the game after only 3mins. From here play settled down with the Bears taking a further six mins. to get their second whilst Leila came up with a shut-out period to see the first period end with the Bears on top at 2-0.
The second period was a repeat of the first although the Cyclones managed to get one in the net for the Bears two to see the score 4-1 at the end of the second period. Dani came very close to scoring in this period with Cian scoring a great defenders goal off a fantastic long range shot from the blue-line.
The Bears started the third a bit slower than the previous two periods but Saxon showed the way with a brilliant solo effort from the face-off to put the Bears 5th. goal away at the six minute mark. This inspired a further 3 goals with a great, sneaky goal coming off the stick of TJ at the net after a lot of hustle. Leila played another shut-out period assisted with great defense from Hollie who kept the attackers out of the centre-lane shooting position and continually passing the puck back-up from behind the red line.
It was certainly a night for the Bears defenders with Saxon, Cian and Max all scoring two goals each with the game finishing at 8-1 the Bears way.

Sunday 8 June 2008 vs Cyclones
Wow, what a game from the Bears !
Even though it's true that the Cyclones played quite a few Atoms in their team for this game, it was the Bears great positional and passing play with only 8 players which won them this match.
The Bears started strongly from the opening bell putting three un-answered goals away in the first period. The Bears only got stronger from here asserting their dominance with a four goal second period followed by an incredible six goal final period seeing them win the match 13-2.
As strong as their attacking play was which saw some great goals come from fanastic passing and puck-handling amongst the forwards, it was the continual holding of their defence positions which kept the opposition to such a low score, combined with great saves from the Bears Goalie - well done to Hollie, Saxon, Cian and Leila in defence with some of these players scoring as well. Particular congratulations also to Nick Air (3 goals) and T. J. (2 goals) who scored from some great runs with the puck and good shots.

Sunday 1 June 2008 vs Emperors
As Bears are usually well huddled up in their dens by Sun-down, late game start times don't really work for them. Unfortunately, this was clearly evident in this game as the Bears struggled through the first period suffering 11 shots on for 2 goals by the Emperors whilst managing to strike once from only 3 shots at the other end making it 2-1 to the Emperors at the end of the first period.
The second period saw the Bears work their way out of their slumber and hold their own, equalling the Emperors in this period 1 goal each.
Frustration on both sides which had been building over the course of the game bubbled over in the third period with both sides giving away numerous penalties in this period. The Emperors ultimately got the best of it scoring 4 times in this period to the Bears 1 making it 7-3 the Emperors way at the end of the game.
Even in this situation some players really shone through for the Bears and need special mention :
Max Lorenz - great job as stand-in Goalie while Leila was away
Jacob Beckerleg - just continues to get better all the time and did great work playing defence
ani - getting some good scoring opportunities
Ryan - The human dynamo : 2 goals and an Assist for the match.

Saturday 24 May 2008 vs Northstars
This was a game played with true grit by the Bears with a squad of only 9 versus 13.
The first period was a flurry of activity with both sides testing each other out and working out the initial adrenalin charge. There were plenty of shots from each side with Dani, T.J. and Nick all being unlucky not to score, showing great determination and getting some good shots in close at the Northstars net. The Bears eventually managed to get one in the net, as did the Northstars seeing the Period end level at 1 goal all.
In the second the Bears started to match the physicality of their opponents but unfortunately ended-up with two in the Box leaving 3 Bears to fight off 5 Northstars towards the end of the Period. It was here that the Bears showed what they are made of when with only Mackay, Max and T.J. they took the puck from their defensive zone and with great passing and some dazzling puck-handling from Mackay managed to put it into the Northstars net at the other end. Ryan then came bursting out of the box with energy to be on the end of some great passing from Saxon and then Dani to put it away with Leila playing a shut-out period which saw the Bears 3 - 1 up at the end of the second.
The physical nature of the game and lack of bench players showed on the Bears in the third as the players tired and the Northstars managed to get a second goal in. Numerous backchecks from Hollie, Saxon and Max kept the Northstars out and the Bears in the lead to take the game 3 - 2.
Great game by the Bears -INSPIRATIONAL !!!

Sunday 18 May 2008 vs Flyers
What a great return to form this game was for the Bears with lots of team play and great passing.
The scoring opened-up early for the Bears in this game with the first goal after only 50 seconds into the game coming after some flurry at the Blacktown net which saw the Flyers goal-tender scrambling every way trying to keep it out, but after some valiant defence and many shots from Nick, ultimately being beaten with a sneaky shot from Mackay which rebounded in for a goal. The second took a little longer for the Bears to get on the board coming with only two minutes to go in the first period off the stick of Ryan after a great set-up pass from Cian leaving the Bears to finish the period 2 - 0.
The second period was a bit more even with the puck going from end to end with Jacob and Danielle both getting some great runs with the puck and Dani almost scoring with Saxon picking up the crumbs to put it away. The great teamwork continued through the period with with virtually all Bears palyers involved in their fourth goal as it went from the Bears defensive zone through the sticks of every Bear player on the ice to end up in the net at the other end with three minutes to go. The Bears held their ground until the end of the period with Leila playing her second shut-out period assisted by some geat defensive work from Hollie to have it 4 - 0 the Bears way at the end of the second.
The third period started the same as the second with end-to-end play and then against the run of play, T.J. stopping the play in the Flyers defensive zone when they tried to bring it out and almost putting it into the net at the five minute mark. Max then put on a great show in the middle of the period with a superb individual effort skating the puck from the Bears defensive zone through 4 out of 5 Flyers and putting it away down the other end. Unfortunately, the Flyers also managed to get on the board in this period as well to end the game 5 - 1 with the Bears victorious.
Great game !

Sunday 11 May 2008 vs Emperors
Even though the Bears eventually lost this game 4-3, this was a very close game and was a great return to form for the Bears with lots of great passing and positional play.
The first period was a bit of an arm wrestle with the puck going from end to end with both teams only having a few shots while they sorted each other out. The Emperors were the lucky ones to get it in the net in the last 2.5mins. of the period to be 1 - 0 up at the end of the first.
After a rev-up from the Bench the Bears came out firing to put 14 shots onto the Emperors goal and score two unanswered goals to have the score 2-1 the Bears way at the end of the second. But it was the great teamwork and passing that was most noticeable and which lead to these goals with Bears Forwards Max, Ryan and Mackay all contributing to these great goals. Leila also played a shut-out in this period to keep the Emperors at bay.
T. J. McCarthy, Danielle Hogan and Nick Air had a few goes at the opposing net during the third, as did Cian O'Reilly with some great set shots from the blueline. Jacob Beckerleg played well in the middle again continually breaking down the forward runs from the Emperors and getting the loose puck off the boards and back into an attacking position. Unfortunately, the Bears only scored one during this period coming from a magnificently timed run on a Penalty Shot by Saxon. The Emperors managed to put three away this period to snatch a very close victory @ 4-3.
Keep-up the great positional play and teamwork Bears
Saturday 3 May 2008 vs Northstars @ Newcastle
This was a game that had everyone in the HISS on the edge of their seats the whole way through as the game continually went from end-to-end with the lead only ever a goal away between the two teams !
The Bears managed to put away the first goal of the game through some great teamwork and continual hustling from all players resulting in the first goal going to Nick Air. However, the Northstars came back with some relentless pressure to score two to finish the period ahead 2 - 1.
The second period was just as frantic as the first with the Bears finding their rhythym a bit better than the Northstars in this period to score the only goal of the period taking the score-line to 2 - 2.
The greater number of Northstars bench players took it's toll in the third period as despite a fantastic effort from the Bears, the Northstars managed to put away two goals in this period to the Bears one to win the game 4 - 3.
Full credit to all Bears players to keep up with the Northstars greater numbers and force such a close result with the game deciding goal being scored by the Northstars in only the last 2.5mins. of the game.

Sunday May 4 2008 vs Saints @ Penrith
The Bears always looked like they had what it would take to win this one but it was still a closely fought game with the effort of all players contributing to the 6 - 4 victory for the Bears.
After much scuttling play with neither team looking like it was really getting the edge over the other, the Bears scored first at approx. halfway through the first period. However, the Saints responded within a minute keeping the score-line at 1 - 1. The Bears then managed to get one in the net towards the end of the period finishing the period 2 - 1 up.
The arm wrestle continued in the second period with the Bears defensemen Saxon, Hollie and Cian doing great work and continually getting the puck back up to the Bears forwards. This period produced two of the Bears best-ever goals with a great charge forward from Max and off-load to Mackay who put it into the net at at the goal-mouth, at speed. Scrappy hustling from Ryan and Mackay at the net in the last 3 mins. of the period saw the get puck get to Nick who also put it away putting the Bears 4 -3 up at the end of the second. We also saw some of the best ever saves from Leila Okabe in this period who took quite a few in the gloves and used her helmet as well !
T. J., Danielle and Jacob all had great runs with the puck in the third period with Max and Ryan each getting their second goals of the game in this period whilst the Saints put one away to finish the game with a win for the Bears at 6 - 4.
Good win Bears !

6 April 2008 vs Flyers at Penrith
What can I say ? - The Bears PeeWees have done it again and this time over arch rivals Blacktown.
What a way to start the season with a 3 from 3 game winning streak !
The Bears came out firing again from the opening whistle and were matched with a lot of hustle from Blacktown, but were able to put away two goals in the second half of the first without letting any in, ending the period with a 2-0 lead.
The second and third periods were contested more evenly as the Flyers found their rhythym and matched the Bears goal for goal in each period which saw the game ending in a 4-2 win for the Bears.
All Bears players contributed to the win with Cian O'Reilly and Max Lorenz playing rugged back-checking defence while Hollie McFadden and Jacob Beckerleg were a constant source of annoyance to Blacktown in the mid-ice area, continually stopping the Flyers advance and stealing the puck. Ryan Persson and Mackay Doran were the goal-scorers for the Bears with two each while Saxon and Nicholas Air and T. J. McCarthy all had some great shots and played great fore-checking. Once again, Leila Okabe in the net played a shut-out period in the first and only had one go past her for each of the subsequent periods - great game.
The Team was well supported from the Bench by Sean Sonter and Dan Spina who shouted themselves hoarse over the course of the game. Congratulations to Dan Spina who has done an awesome job training the team during the absence of regular coach - Neil McFadden.
The teamwork that continues to develop in this team augers well for the rest of the season. Upcoming games against Canterbury and the Emperors will further test this team, but if they keep on playing and improving the way they are, then this team can GO ALL THE WAY !!
Go Bears !

30 March 2008 vs Liverpool Saints at Liverpool
Well, what another game from the Bears PeeWees !
On a fine Sunday morning at the Liverpool Catholic Club rink the Bears came out absolutely firing in the first period to nail four goals to one against the Saints. This stunning first period obviously knocked the wind out of the Saints who were held goal-less in the second while the Bears added another two with a double-header coming from Cian O'Reilly in this period.
However, the energy toll of the first two periods showed on the Bears in the third as they added another two to their total but let the Saints get five in the net resulting in a win for the Bears at 8-6. Better work on that fitness and defence Bears !
It's great to see the Bears with such depth in attack with 6 players - Saxon Air, T. J. McCarthy, Max Lorenz, Ryan Persson, Cian O'Reilly and Mackay Doran all contributing to the goal scoring at a 1 in 2 shots goal scoring efficiency. Rookie ice-hockey player - Jacob Beckerleg also had another great game showing immense courage in defence in only his second game with Nicholas Air, Danielle Hogan and Hollie McFadden contributing to holding out the Saints attack. The score line also doesn't reflect the amazing saves coming from Goalie - Leila Okabe, who came under pressure from some great shots.
Full points also to Dan Spina who fired the team up in the absence of regular Coach - Neil McFadden (watch out for your job Neil !)
All-in-all, another great game from the Bears and very inspiring at the start of the Season

16 March 2008 vs Central Coast Cyclones at Erina
Well, what a start to the season - a 12-2 win over an established team like the Cyclones !
The game started very well with the first goal put away by new player Max Lorenz after only 3.5 mins. Saxon Air then chipped in with a double while the Cyclones managed two goals to make the score 3-2 at the end of the first period.
The Bears scored a further two goals in the second period thanks to Ryan Persson and Nicholas Air, while not letting in from the Cyclones to have the score 5-2 at the end of the second.
After an end of second period pep-talk from Coach Neil McFadden, the Bears then really put the pedal to the metal and romped home with a 7 goal period to win the game 12-2 ! Goals this period came off the stick of Nicholas Air (3 goals for the game !), Mackay Doran, Cian O'Reilly, Ryan Persson (another double-goaler for the game), a second from Max Lorenz and a goal from ice hockey rookie - Jacob Beckerleg !
As well as those scoring goals, a great game was had by Hollie McFadden, Danielle Hogan and TJ McCarthy, all of who played solid defence chasing down anything that moved and in advancing the puck well, assisting in setting-up the scoring oppurtunities.
I have never seen a team start a season so well with all players very eager, playing good positional play, passing well and backing each other up and all with a few new starters in the team. If the team can maintain this quality of play and teamwork and improve upon it, then the Bears PeeWees are going to have a very good season indeed.
Particular mention to our Coach Neil who has done a great job in having a team play so well at the start of the season and to our Goal-keeper - Leila, playing-up from Atoms with a second and third period shut-out in this game.
