Atoms Round Robin

On Sunday the 22nd of September the Sydney Bears Atoms headed out to Canterbury for the round robin. The team was determinded to show the other clubs that we meant business, and showed them we did. With draws to some of the top teams like Canterbury and Cyclones and wins against Blacktown, Liverpool and Penrith we were on a high.

Nicholas showed his skill once again as the top Bears goal scorer and Hollie held the defense together whilst the rest of the players stepped up and provided support and assists.

At the end of the day the players were soaking in sweat, happy with their wins and draws and absolutely in awe at the shiny medal they received.

Well done Bears, next season is going to be a ripper!

30th March 2008 Double Header

The Atoms had a double header on 30th March 2008 against Liverpool Saints and the Penrith Phantoms.

The first game saw the 11 weary atoms, fresh from their breakfast, playing against a determinded Liverpool team. Liverpool won 4-7, with the Bear's star Nicholas scoring 4 goals. Nicholas was on a roll scoring 2 goals within minutes of each other. For a few minutes the whole team was pumped to win the game back, but the Saints came back with a goal within seconds of Nicholas scoring.

This game was also Mickey's first game with the Bears and he fitted in very well. The Ex Development Leaguers Michael, Daniel C, Ben H, Ben E and Jack vastly improved and started to find their place on the ice. A big improvement from the previous week of 18-1 to the Cyclones.

Nicholas, Hollie and Lelia went off to play their Peewee match while the rest went home to have a nap before their next game.

With the team tired and cold, out at Penrith on a Sunday evening, just moments away from their bedtimes, the team set out determined to get a win.

Nicholas, Hollie, Zac and Mickey scored, with many of the other players getting great shots on goal. It was time for the Bears to shine. Whistle after whistle, the team played liked champions and took home the game 8-0. A total shut-out. A big turn around from their first game. Remi and I (your coach) are very impressed with your level of dedication. The Most improved and valuable player for these two games was our great goalie Leila. The previous game went to Jack Pedersen.

15 March 2008 vs Central Coast Cyclones at Erina

Atoms first game together!

The Bears Atoms team has formed and played their first game together on Saturday 15 March in Erina against the Cyclones.  The team consists of a few players from last season who have transferred from other clubs and some new children coming out of D League who have just discovered the fun of the sport!

With Cyclones being the more experienced team and having played together for so long, our Bears were defeated but the game had some wonderful moments such as Nick Air’s goal in the second period unassisted.

The Bears will continue to develop as a team and take off throughout the season. Go Bears!
