Welcome to the Sydney Bears Ice Hockey Club
Welcome to the official site of the Sydney Bears Ice Hockey Club. The Sydney Bears Ice Hockey Club is a non-profit incorporated association. The Club Executive and game officials are all volunteers - you can volunteer too, training is available.
The aims of the club are to be competitive, to develop players of all ages, to promote the sport of ice hockey and to have fun, enjoy and cater for recreational players in the Junior and Senior Divisions as well as promoting a Development League.
The Sydney Bears Ice Hockey Club is over 29 years old. The Club started with two teams and presently has seven. Ice hockey as a sport has grown in popularity all over Australia, the main challenges remain finding ice time at public rinks and finding good qualified coaches.
The Club also has a affiliation with the AIHL Bears. The
AIHL Bears are a semi-professional ice hockey team in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL). The team plays its home games at the Penrith Ice Palace in Penrith, New South Wales. The team previously played at Macquarie Center and the Sydney Ice Arena in Baulkham Hills but announced they would move to Penrith for the 2007 AIHL season.
Currently there are 8 teams in the AIHL: Sydney Bears, Adelaide Adrenaline, Canberra Knights, Gold Coast BlueTongues, Melbourne Ice, Newcastle North Stars, Melbourne Mustangs and West Sydney Ice Dogs.
